Many of the songs created by the band “Remix”, created 30 years ago, are still quite popular. Among them is the song “… at Laika” as a symbol of the Awakening, which won the “Microphone” poll in 1988. A year later, the band also recorded a record of the same name, which included seven more songs with current themes, but very little was heard because the original of the record was stolen and the songs were difficult to digitize.

Well done, and on Thursday, October 29, at the music house “Daile” there will be a celebration of the release of the CD version of “… pie Laika”.
In 1988, the song “… pie Laika” was released for the first time, “Remix”, which accurately reflected the longing for freedom in the air at that time. Soon the band added seven more compositions in a similar mood, as evidenced by the song titles “Earth is Bitter”, “Transformation”, “Warrior”, “Sin”, which together form a very strong story saturated with expectations of freedom.
Aivars Hermanis and Uldis Marhilēvičs were the authors of the passionate, awakening and sometimes quite angry message. Authors of texts – Jānis Baltauss, Klāvs Elsbergs and Igo.
In 1989, the songs were recorded in the recording studio of the company “Melodija”, in 1990 a record was released. Unfortunately, the songs were played very little in the wider circulation, because the original or the so-called master recordings were stolen from the sound recording studio by unknown villains in the early 1990s. As a result, it was very difficult to digitize the records. Well done by Marek Ameriks, and the record will finally reach the listeners in CD version.
Out of a total of eight, the author of six songs is Uldis Marhilēvičs. As he remembers, it all started in 1987, when the legendary song “… pie Laika” was created.
“We tried on Wagner Street, in the hall that will now be renovated. And I remember talking about the need to do something in the spirit of perestroika, in the spirit of Awakening. Then I had such an uplifting, hymn-like melody. But … text needed. It takes a little while, and Igo gives me the page where the words are written – we demand freedom … We tell him – well, Igo, finish what you fool, but it will not be passed anywhere …
At that time, it was barely 1987, when nothing so great had moved yet, even though the winds were already there, the writers began to “rise”. But no one could afford it on a daily basis at that time.
But in connection with that song, we managed to hold on, we also managed to perform it at the Jurmala Festival, ”says Uldis Marhilēvičs.
