Dell is investing in AMD in new top models

The choice of processors for PCs at the better end of the scale has long been a question of which of Intel’s processors to choose. But lately, the competitor AMD has gained momentum, thanks to some very successful processors at comfortable prices.

Therefore, for the first time in 10 years, Dell has chosen to invest in a processor from AMD in some of its most powerful gaming machines.

This applies to the newly designed Alienware m15 Ryzen Edition R5 and Dell G15 Ryzen Edition, both equipped with laptop versions of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 series graphics card.

The new m15 is available with up to AMD Ryzen 5000 H-series processor. The 15-inch screen is either Full HD with 360 Hz refresh rate or QHD with 240 Hz. The graphics card is from Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 30 series. As a finishing touch, the machine is also available in a configuration with a real mechanical keyboard with switches from Cherry MX. We have just seen some portable models with mechanical keys before – but never in a 15 ″ laptop!

Price and expected launch in Norway is currently unknown, but with an American price of USD 1794 we can tip something around 20,000 kroner – for the cheapest models.

If you are looking for something cheaper, then Dell has a gaming series in its own name. Here you will find the new 15-inch Dell G15 Ryzen edition. Also here you get up to AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors and Nvidia Geforce RTX 30xx graphics. The screen is a bit more humble with 120 Hz or 165 Hz panel. And since nothing else has been said, we must assume that the resolution is limited to Full HD. A 360 Hz screen will arrive later in the spring. Here the prices start at USD 900, so you can probably count on a Norwegian price of just over 10,000 kroner.
