The National Defense Headquarters from Araucania region expressed its rejection after the attack against two military patrols happened early this Sunday morning in Ercilla, which left three people injured, one of them in the head.
The entity strongly condemned “the unjustified and excessive violence attack carried out by a group of criminals (…) against the lives of military personnel who are tirelessly employed for the safety of the inhabitants of the region.”
Through a statement, they noted that they will file a complaint for unsuccessful homicide against military personnel.
In addition, before possible new attacks, the National Defense Headquarters of the region, warned that these “They will be repelled in use of the legitimate defense, making use of the means that the State itself makes available to the Army to ensure the protection of the personnel, infrastructure and equipment ”delivered to carry out their tasks.
Patrol attacks
Around 02:20 a.m., a JDN-dependent patrol, which was carrying out tasks to protect Route 5 supply lines and critical infrastructure, was stopped due to the presence of barricades on the Huequén bridge.
According to the document, it was at that time that she was ambushed by a group of people, who carried out shooting at vehicles and military personnel, which repelled the attack.
Although there were no injuries, the vehicles suffered damage as a result of the shooting.
Then at 02:40 a.m. a second patrol was attacked in the Pidima sector, while carrying out a scheduled patrol on Route 5.
Product of the shooting, three members of the patrol were injured and they had to be transferred to the Collipulli healthcare center.
Two of the wounded were diagnosed with minor injuries, due to the impact of pellets on different parts of the body. While the third wounded soldier presented a concussion, since he received a bullet to the head, but used a ballistic helmet.
