The US authorities plan to deprive Russia of the ability to make payments on bonds as early as May 25. As a result, the default in Russia will come even faster than expected.

It is noted that the US Department of the Treasury will cancel the so-called general license, which excludes the possibility of payments to service part of the sovereign debt of the Russian Federation from anti-Russian sanctions.
The license, which expires May 25, allowed Russia to continue making payments on the bonds. This provided the country with an opportunity to prevent default.
According to the publication, the Biden administration decided not to renew the license in order to put even more economic pressure on the Russian Federation.
