The Santiago Hospital is suffering from a COVID-19 outbreak. The contagions affect approximately fifteen professionals. Positives have also been detected among patients and companions, although no data is offered, at the moment, on the exact number of infections.

In any case, internal hospital sources tell the CADENA SER that the outbreak affects several units and that it is one of the most important that has been experienced since the beginning of the pandemic.

Osakidetza has conducted several screenings.

Official sources from Osakidetza tell the CADENA SER that the situation “is under control” because the new positives that may arise are not directly associated with the origin of the outbreak but are a consequence of the screening that has been carried out in units other than those of the origin. .

The opening of more COVID plants is prepared

Meanwhile, the number of hospitalized with COVID-19 continues to grow in Vitoria hospitals. To date, Txagorritxu and Santiago have 101 sick people admitted, there are 15 more than yesterday and almost double than last Thursday when there were 53 hospitalized.

In the ICUs of the HUA there are 15 people admitted.

In fact, the increase in hospitalizations has meant that both Txagorritxu and Santiago are working right now to enable one more plant in each of the hospitals to care for COVID-19 patients.

A deceased in nursing homes

The situation in the homes for the elderly in Álava has worsened in the last week. One person has died in the private residence of Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes in Vitoria and there are 14 older people infected.
