Deaths from COVID-19 in New York exceed number of deaths in attack on the Twin Towers

Deaths due to COVID-19 in New York exceeded the number of deaths that occurred in the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 against the World Trade Center.

At least 3,220 people have died in the city from the new strain of coronavirus, according to a new count published Tuesday by local health officials.

The deadliest terrorist attack on US soil killed 2,753 people in the city when two planes crashed into the Twin Towers, which made up the WTC.

That day, counting the number of the Towers and the attacks against the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 2,977 individuals died.

The coronavirus has once again put New York at the center of a national tragedy and in the midst of a crisis that is changing the lives and freedoms of Americans.

New York City recorded its first coronavirus death on March 13, less than two weeks after confirming its first infection.
