Death toll coronavirus contracted with 34, now 213 deceased in the Netherlands | NOW

The number of people who died in the Netherlands from the consequences of the coronavirus has risen to 213. Since Sunday, 34 fatalities have been added, the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports Monday afternoon in the daily update.

On Sunday, 43 more fatalities were added. Thirty people died on both days on Friday and Saturday. The dead are between 55 and 97 years old. The average age of people who died of COVID-19 in the Netherlands is now 82 years.

The number of confirmed infections has increased to 4,749. On Sunday, that number was still 4,202. This is not the actual number of infections. That number is much higher, because not everyone is tested anymore because of the scarce testing capacity. Especially patients who have been hospitalized and caregivers are tested.

Most people tested positive live in the province of Noord-Brabant (1,558). The provinces of South Holland (647) and North Holland (600) have the most infections after North Brabant.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • You can significantly reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from other people.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
