Death of a woman pushed on the tracks of the New York subway

An Asian woman died in Manhattan on Saturday after being pushed by a man onto the rails. The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. at the Times Square-4th Street station.

The victim, Michelle Alyssa Go, a 40-year-old woman, was allegedly killed by a man in his 60s who quickly fled the scene, later surrendering to police. He was questioned, then officially arrested and charged with murder.

Simon Martial, 61, would be a homeless person known to the authorities, would have pushed the victim while she was alone on the platform waiting for the metro.

Michelle Alyssa Go was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This gesture was unprovoked and the victim does not appear to have had any interaction with the suspect. This is an absolutely gratuitous act of violence,” said New York Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Keechant Sewell.

Investigators are studying the hypothesis that the victim was targeted because of his ethnic origin.
