Legendary coach of Australian swimmers Don Talbot has died. He was 87 years old. The architect of the golden age of Australian swimming at the turn of the millennium died in his sleep on November 3. The National Hall of Fame informed about it.
A special coach led the Australian national team in the 1990s and in the first decade of the new millennium. At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, his charges won 18 medals, the best result in almost thirty years. Talbot was also behind the achievements of Ian Thorpe, who won five gold, three silver and one bronze Olympic medal in Sydney and four years later in Athens.
“We owe a lot to Don. His legacy as one of Australia’s most successful swimming coaches and his inspiration will continue,” said John Bertrand, former president of the Australian Association.
