Vincent Karremans, chairman of the VVD party in Rotterdam, lives diagonally opposite the place of the shooting. “I did not immediately realize that they were shots, at first I thought of fireworks, but it went on and was very hard.”
“Then I heard screams and then I went outside. People were screaming and crying. There was a man in the street who was being resuscitated. Later he was taken away in a bag.”

Bizarre
Karremans calls the shooting “bizarre”. “It is a child-rich neighborhood, a normal residential area. Fortunately, I have not seen children on the street, but of course I could have.”
The police say on Twitter that probably two men have fled in a car. A burning car was found in the industrial area of Spanish Polder, about 5 kilometers away. That may be the getaway car.
Criminal settlement
Karremans suspects that it is a criminal statement. “Of course I’m not sure, but it seems like it. A machine gun and a getaway car … As a society, we have no idea of the misery behind the drug world.”
