Dead and injured by driving into army vehicle on Myanmar demonstrators | Abroad

Images are circulating on the internet showing how the car crashes into demonstrators who try to run away. Witnesses say soldiers then fired shots and also beat people. Fifteen people have also been arrested, according to local news site Myanmar Now. The military rulers in the Asian country have not yet responded to the events.

The demonstrators staged an unannounced action against the military who on February 1 overthrew the democratically elected government and took power themselves. Since then, protests have been held regularly, with more than 1,300 dead, according to a local human rights group.

The coup was carried out because, according to the army, electoral fraud had been committed. Several politicians, including deposed government leader Aung San Suu Kyi, have been detained since the coup. Several charges have been filed against them. The first verdict against Suu Kyi is expected on Monday. She could face three years in prison for incitement against the army. Her party won the parliamentary elections.
