Primary and secondary schools in Campania will be closed from tomorrow until 30 October after the recent increase in infections. The new ordinance just signed by the President of the Region Vincenzo De Luca provides for this. The provision provides for the stop of didactic and educational activities in presence. Lessons and face-to-face examinations have also been suspended in the universities of Campania, with the exception of those relating to first-year students. The Minister of Education, Lucia Azzolina, commented (a Zapping on Radio 1): I have neither the power to open schools nor the power to close schools. The presidents of the regions and the provinces have the power to close them. De Luca’s was a very serious decision, deeply wrong and inopportune. According to the minister, if we don’t want to sacrifice the school, we can work for smart working even more. In the morning, it’s not just the students who get on the vehicles. Leaving students at home is unacceptable if we want to consider the numbers of infections in schools. The necessities about taking or not taking transport, which for example may concern a civil servant, must be spread over all other sectors.

In the new ordinance of the Campania Region which will be published in the evening, in addition to the face-to-face lessons, feasts, also resulting from civil or religious ceremonies, in public places, open to the public and private, indoors or outdoors, with guests outside the cohabiting family are also prohibited. These measures are in addition to those already provided in the previous ordinances, starting with the obligation to wear a mask decided two weeks ago.
