De Bruyne is disappointed by the overloaded calendar: ‘Nobody listens to the players’ | NOW

Kevin De Bruyne expressed his frustrations on Saturday about the overflowing football calendar in his eyes. The Belgian midfielder fears a lot of physical malheur from players if the matches continue to follow at a rapid pace.

“If the season continues like this, I will play for two consecutive years without a holiday period. Sometimes I worry, especially when I look at my own situation. But nobody listens to the players”, De Bruyne said at a press conference.

In his own words, De Bruyne had only eight days off last summer. He had only finished his last season with Manchester City, which was long drawn out by the corona crisis, in mid-August and started the new year a month later.

“I couldn’t even go on vacation, because my wife was pregnant. Mentally, that is quite difficult. Like everyone else, I also need a vacation to relax and let my body recover from all the efforts”, said De Bruyne.

“And if everyone is saying that we make a lot of money and that we have to accept this busy schedule, then so be it. However, I predict a lot of injuries in top football in the coming months.”

De Bruyne will play with Belgium in the Nations League next week. The Belgians will take on England on Sunday in London and Iceland on Wednesday in Reykjavik. Without De Bruyne, Belgium drew 1-1 in Brussels on Thursday in an exhibition game with Ivory Coast (1-1).
