Sony rumored to have dropped the proposal for a sequel

Written by Michel Musters on

Jeff Ross, the director of Days Gone, has spoken out about what a possible sequel to the game would have entailed.

Ross did that in a interview met USA Today. According to him, a sequel could offer a “definitive version” of the concept from the first game. He explains that the first part has laid the foundation of the gameplay. This could be further elaborated in the future. “You are mainly concerned with epic new ideas that you can put in.”

According to Ross, a sequel would continue the story of motorcyclist Deacon St. John and his wife Sarah. “They’re back together, but maybe they’re not so happy. What can we do with that? They were married before the apocalypse, but what about the future?”

Ross reports that a sequel to Days Gone would keep the emphasis on story, as well as Deacon’s engine as a key gameplay element. “And you would have Nero tech at your disposal – what can we do with all that? (…) I’m not saying it would be like the Avengers, but players would have more materials at their disposal, the remnants of what the government ever had.”

Furthermore, Ross reports that the behavior of enemies would vary more and that players could, for example, encounter bears that are searching through trash cans. There would also be dynamic encounters with wolves. “I would add more systems like that.”

A sequel to Days Gone is unlikely to be released anytime soon. Ross spoke out last week about Sony treating the game as a disappointment despite the sales figures. “When I left Sony, Day Gone had been out for a year and a half (and a month) and had sold 8 million copies of the game. Since then, the game has sold more, including over a million units on Steam. Local studio management handled the issue. game as a disappointment though.”

As far as we know, Bend Studio is working on a new IP after a sequel to Days Gone was rejected by Sony.
