The rector of the University of Food Technology, Prof. Plamen Mollov, who is on the initiative committee of Stefan Yanev’s party – “Bulgarian Rise”, will not join the formation, nor will be among its founders this Sunday.
This was assured by the former caretaker Prime Minister on Tuesday – five days before his formation is officially established.
The reason is the scandal that erupted last week after the head of the Bulgarian Food Agency, Prof. Hristo Daskalov, complained of pressure and possible bribery by Mollov in connection with the phytosanitary control at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.
A recording leaked in which a person whose voice is said to belong to Mollov’s persuaded the professor not to stop the activities of the private laboratory controlling imports on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. The person gave the head of the BFSA a folder with banknotes.
The recording was given to SANS, and on Tuesday the prosecutor’s office announced that it was launching an investigation.
Mollov was head of the agency nearly seven years ago, when businessman Aladdin Harpan accused him of asking for 10,000 euros a month in a “peace of mind fee”. The BFSA denied, but Plamen Mollov was relieved of his post.
He is currently the rector of the University of Food Technology in Plovdiv.
