Bologna,Italy - September 14,2025 – Alex de Minaur powered Australia to a crucial lead in their Davis Cup tie against Belgium today, defeating zizou Bergs in a compelling three-set match. The victory puts the pressure squarely on Belgian shoulders, with the tie now resting on the shoulders of 23-year-old Liège native, Kimmer Collignon.
Collignon, fresh off what he called ”the most beautiful victory of his career” in his previous match, will face Aleksandar Vukic (ATP 95) in the decisive rubber. vukic replaces Jordan Thompson (ATP 77) in the Australian lineup at the last minute.
Earlier in the day,Thompson had fallen to Bergs in singles play on Saturday. He rebounded alongside Rinky Hijikata to win the doubles match against Belgium’s Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen on Sunday, leveling the tie at 1-1.
The winner of the Collignon-Vukic showdown will secure their nation’s qualification for the ‘final 8’ of the Davis Cup, to be held in Bologna, Italy, from November 18-23. Belgium has not reached the final phase of the competition since 2019, when the tournament featured a different 18-team format.
