David Lebon, outgoing opposition municipal councilor in Chartres, requests “the holding of an extraordinary municipal council”

As in several other municipalities in the department where the municipal election was played out on the first ballot, on March 15, 2020, the new council could not yet be installed, in Chartres, due to the epidemic of Covid-19.

Confinement: for Jean-Pierre Gorges, mayor of Chartres, “the curfew is not necessary”

Mayor Jean-Pierre Gorges, was re-elected for a fourth term. But the municipal assembly elected in 2014, still in place, must therefore play overtime.

David Lebon, outgoing opposition municipal councilor (PS), sent a public letter to the mayor of Chartres earlier this week. The elected official, who was not a candidate last March, asked Jean-Pierre Gorges “to hold a meeting of the extraordinary municipal council. “

David Lebon explains: “The exceptional situation in our country and its impact on our community must lead us to make decisions for the preparation of the deconfinement, but also to debate new directions that the lasting situation we are going through requires. “

“Physical or video”

Contacted, the elected official said: “There are reflections to be had on the use of public facilities such as the L’Odyssée complex for example, for the continuation of the events. But there is no desire for controversy. “

The mayor of Chartres has set up a reduced management committee which meets every Monday to manage current affairs and organize the management of the town in times of health crisis.

Regarding the organization of this possible Council, it could take two forms, according to David Lebon: “A physical meeting with a proportional representation of each group to respect the rules of social distancing, or a teleconference. These provisions could also lead to a meeting of the Community Council. “

He adds: “If this Council cannot be public, we hope that the elected representatives of the first round of the last elections are invited to attend, without the possibility of speaking by the newly elected representatives. “

The City of Chartres should respond to David Lebon in the coming days, by public mail.
