Transport Minister Al-Wazir answered the question from SPD member of the state parliament, Bijan Kaffenberger. An agreement between the city of Darmstadt and Hessen Mobil has not yet been reached.
The planning for the construction of the additional bus lane as part of the work on Bundesstraße 26 near Darmstadt’s Ostbahnhof is not progressing as quickly as the city announced in November of last year. Hesse’s Transport Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens) replied to a small request from SPD member of the state parliament, Bijan Kaffenberger, that a planning agreement between the Hessen Mobil road traffic authority and the city was necessary for the planning of the bus lane. However, such an agreement has “not yet been reached,” said Al-Wazir. Almost a year ago, Lord Mayor Jochen Partsch (Greens) announced that the work on the preliminary planning of the lane had “top priority” and that the city and Hessen Mobil were “in a close coordination process”.
According to Al-Wazir, investigations in connection with the structural upgrading of the trough structure on the B 26 during the summer holidays have shown that the damage found to the concrete walls is not as serious as initially assumed. Therefore, the planned duration of the remaining renovation could be reduced if necessary. In a message, Kaffenberger is now calling on the city to conclude the necessary planning agreement in order to advance the construction of the bus lane.
