DARMSTADT – Between Wednesday 9 November and Monday 14 November there will be noise and dust pollution in the Darmstadt central station area due to the renewal of the platforms. As reported by Deutsche Bahn, attempts are being made to minimize disruptions. “However, impairments in the construction process cannot be completely ruled out.”

According to the press office of Deutsche Bahn, around 1.55 billion euros were made available to the railway network and railway stations in Hesse in 2022. Some 210 kilometers of tracks, 210 points and eight bridges will be modernized and renovated. One of the many construction sites is the main railway station in Darmstadt: from 9 November, platform 8, which has been running for years, will be renovated there.

A tamping machine for ballast compaction, a ballast plow and a road-rail excavator are used. “By maintaining and renovating the infrastructure, we are creating the conditions necessary for stable rail traffic,” said the spokeswoman for the railways. No further construction measures are currently planned at the Darmstadt central station.

Instead, we continue with the second construction phase of the “Knoten Frankfurt-Stadion” infrastructure project. By 2029, two new long-distance tracks will be built between the stadium and Frankfurt central station. In addition, the railways want to expand or completely rebuild seven bridges, including an additional railway bridge that should lead to two tracks on the Main. The railways, the federal government and the state of Hesse are investing around 440 million euros in the railway project.
