Seven departments on orange alert

Gérald Darmanin also urged residents to exercise the greatest caution since in “In the coming hours, there is always a very high risk of precipitation”.

While many roads and bridges were cut, the A9 motorway, a major axis connecting the Rhône valley, the Marseille region and Italy to Spain, was closed for several hours. It was reopened around 7:00 p.m., but only in the Montpellier-Orange direction. On the A9, “About 30 people were brought to safety by air and ground means”, while in Aigues-Vives “10 people were hoisted”, said the firefighters. Train traffic between Nîmes and Montpellier “Remains interrupted until early evening”, added the prefecture.

A new disturbance also appeared by the Atlantic causing significant thunderstorm activity from Aquitaine to the central regions. In addition to Gard, six departments have been placed on orange alert for “thunderstorms” and “precipitation” by La Chaîne Météo: Ardèche, Corrèze, Creuse, Haute-Garonne, Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne.
