He succeeds in everything, including winning a 25km sprint by beating the favorite. The author of the enterprise is Dario Verani, 27, from Cecina, graduated in Economics, it is he who closes the expedition with a bang: he takes the gold medal in the longest race, the 25 km swim in the waters of Lupa Lake, where yesterday Gregorio Paltrinieri won gold in 10 (with Domenico Acerenza’s silver).

Verani, like Acerenza, is another of the magic circle that is he trains with Greg under the guidance of Fabrizio Antonelli and last year at the European Championships, swimming in these same waters, he won the bronze in the 5 km (with Greg always gold): today with a time of 5h02’21 “50 he preceded the French Axel Reymond (5h02’22” 70 ), a favorite, who had always led the race in the lead for 24.5 km. Dario is used to working hard: until a few years ago he was an honest swimmer in the Len Cup or World Cup, now he is the first in the world. His scream as he comes out of the water is a kind of liberation: «This race tests you physically and morally. I have a sense of lightness and this medal is a liberation ». He and Antonelli have always believed in us: «With my coach since the beginning of the year we had this performance in mind. I’m over the moon because the race I wanted to do has come out. I stayed at the feet of the French favorite and I knew I had something more in the last hundred meters – Dario’s first words -. I was not satisfied, once I was there I had to take advantage of it: it is truly a dream. Few believed in me, I believed in it and we succeeded. I dedicate this medal to my family, to the Army sports center, a Francesca, to all the people who made this dream possible. In the medal there is also a lot of anger, joy and suffering ».
