Daniel Landa Releases New Album “Minefield” with Tribute to Heroes and Critiques of Current Situation

Singer and music composer Daniel Landa releases a new album Minefield, in which a tribute to the heroes of our history is heard, and thus includes, for example, a memorial to Jozef Gabčík’s friend Anna Malinová, who was murdered by the Nazis in Mauthausen for helping the paratroopers. There is also criticism of the current situation. “You hear us, we are not children, we are losing ground. Life is getting shorter,” is also heard on the album in one of the previously presented protest songs, which criticizes the coronavirus restrictions imposed on the Czech Republic during the government of ex-prime minister Andrej Babiš (ANO).

In his new album Minefield, Daniel Landa presents in a comprehensive form the compositions released recently, such as Anička Malinová, Blanický manifesto, Ukolébavka and Hoří horizont, and the album thus features a strong spectrum of songs that remind us of our history or criticize the conditions of recent years .

“True heroes rise from among the most ordinary people. For the majority of today’s spoiled population, great heroic stories have become just a familiar date, a familiar historical event. But behind every such event there are deep stories of ordinary people like us and their personal feelings full of longing, fear, sadness, love and pain. However, the most famous names are only the tips of the iceberg, which rise above a huge number of others, more or less nameless in history, without whose inconspicuous, but no less heroic, great events would hardly have taken place.” said Landa for Musicserver.cz to commemorate the little-known heroine of our history, who was Anna Malinová – Jozef Gabčík’s friend, who hid him from the attack on the representative Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich, after which she was murdered by the Nazis in the Mauthausen concentration camp.

The album also criticizes the recent harsh restrictions introduced in the Czech Republic by the cabinet of ex-prime minister Andrej Babiš (ANO). “Where will the proud citizen of a state that has just been swept to the ground end up? Freedom, assassination victim, maybe I’ll meet behind bars. You hear us, we’re not children, we’re already full of it!” the protest song “Blanický manifesto”, released for the first time already at the beginning of 2021, screams singer Daniel Landa together with representatives of the most important Czech music groups, including singer Josef Vojtek from the group Kabat, founder of the group Divokej Bill Vašek Bláha, singer of Čechomoru František Černý and others.

“I wonder how long my chain is. There is an explanation hidden in the mists. Rise up or kill your desires,” is sung in a song where, for example, children in masks marched.

In addition to the two mentioned songs, Lando’s album also contains the tracks Dneska mám volno, Hlavolam, Posledni nula, Ukolébavka, Reality show, Hoří horizont ’93, Presumed savior and the composition Mine field.

“Whoa whoa whoa we’re in the elite show, smile for the camera sir.” Like actors in a diamond driven with alms, we have no idea what will happen to us. Whoa whoa whoa we’re in the elite show smile for the camera lady. After scaring you with the apocalypse, they’ll protect your sleep from your taxes.” sounds in the lyrics of the song Reality Show.

“After listening to Minový polé in Dan’s home studio, I understood why the journey to it had to take eight long years since the previous album Zito, and even fourteen years since the last typically Landovian Nigredo. Minefield is not only a musically and lyrically captivating work. It is a message about the state of society and the world from a man who, in his life and work, caused many conflicts and stirred up many emotions, but as one of the few, he never deviated from his path, and therefore we can believe his words: ‘He who does not give up /He will drink from the grail/He will carve his name/Into the crown of kings’,” he commented new album by Vladimír Kočandrle, director of the Warner Music Czech Republic publishing house, for the Rockandpop.eu server.

Landa added that it was his wish that people would listen to Minefield in its entirety “from start to finish”.

Landa regularly comments on what is happening here. In an interview with commentator Ondřej Tesárek almost two years ago, he pointed out that he feels that today everything is returning to the time before the national revival. “The Czech element was stunted, they tried to tell us that we have no history, that we are actually such idiots… that we are actually Germans…” he said.

According to the singer, it is important to talk, for example, about our country or to mention why, for example, we should stay with the koruna and not exchange it for the euro. Today, patriotism is said to be confused with “primitivism”.
