Damso confides in his first texts

In Tony Parker’s podcast.

Recent guest of the podcast hosted by Tony Parker on Spotify, Belgian rapper Damso spoke at length on several personal topics. He notably regretted not spending enough time with his son or having had hatred against the basketball player. But, he also opened up about his early rapping days and how he used his brother as a role model.

“He actually inspired me. I went back to my room and started writing my first rap text. And I remember it was weird because you have to say things and I was not in that sense. Where I was creating characters all the time, there I wanted to rap what I was. So when I did my first text, he was a bit shocked, because it was a bit personal at the time, he wasn’t expecting it too much.”

And yet, as he also confided to Tony Parker, Damso’s first steps in writing were not made to write songs but to put stories down on paper, like a novelist.

“I wrote very early, around 7-8 years old. I wrote stories, but since my writing wasn’t crazy, I liked it because you couldn’t read what I wrote.”

In this same conversation, Damso also recalled that he had written several adventure stories which he unfortunately misplaced on a train when he was about twelve years old.

In this podcast, the rapper also spoke about his fatherhood and the difficulty of reconciling his life as an artist and his life as a father. In particular, he recognizes that “not being present enough” in her son’s daily life.

It is not easy. I like quality time. You can’t have it all the time. It pisses me off to say to myself: ‘I’m going to see my son quickly’. No, I want to see it…“.

If he recognizes his “frustration”he also knows that at some point, this situation will improve.

I think, at some point, it will be more stable. You want to take him with you but, at the same time, you find that it’s not necessarily a good environment for him and you want him to go to school…”
