Dallas Mavericks: Doncic is annoyed about unrest after a false start
Instead, the guests led the break with 50 points, which was a new NBA record. The Golden State Warriors had previously led by 47 points in a game against the Sacramento Kings in November 1991. The only current Mavs players born then are James Johnson, Boban Marjanovic and Dwight Powell, although it is doubtful that they will remember.
In the end it was the second-highest victory in franchise history, only in November 2014 the fueling Philadelphia 76ers were beaten higher (53 points difference). “We showed who we are,” said Doncic, who had 24 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists in just 26 minutes. “People judged us for the first two games, but it’s been a long season. We have to play defense, that’s our focus.”
For this, Josh Richardson was brought in in the offseason, who came from Philadelphia via Trade for Seth Curry. Defensively, the guard already showed in Phoenix that he can be of help, now he was also convincing in attack. With 13 points in the first quarter, he and Doncic were the first Mavs duo in over 20 years to score 13 points each in the first quarter.
Dallas Mavericks: The next games won’t be easier
So there were runs for the Mavs. 9: 0, 10: 0 and later 12: 0 – all of this happened in the first half against completely indisposed Clippers. “We shouldn’t hang it up,” said Clippers star Paul George, who was already top scorer with just 15 points. “They spanked us today, but it’s just a game.”
He may be right, after all, his team has celebrated statement victories against direct rivals against the Lakers and in Denver. Dallas, on the other hand, absolutely needed this game to prevent the disaster at the start. So the difficult first away trip ended reasonably acceptable.
Now there are two home games against Charlotte and Miami before they travel again to the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets and Denver Nuggets. It shows: The game plan for the Texans is tough, but with a historic victory in the bag, everything could be a little easier.
