the essentials in brief

  • The Dallas Mavericks clearly lost Game 1 of the NBA semifinal series with 87:112.
  • The Texans can’t find a recipe against the Golden State Warriors’ superior defense.

At the start of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals, the Dallas Mavericks were clearly beaten by the Golden State Warriors. On Wednesday (local time) the Texans lost their away game in the North American professional basketball league in San Francisco with 87:112.

This is the third time the Dallas Mavericks have lost in the opener of a series in the playoffs. “We’ve always found an answer,” said Dallas head coach Jason Kidd. In the first game against Golden State, Dallas found no response against the Warriors’ defense, with the visitors hitting just 36 percent of their shots from the field and 23 percent of their three-pointers.

Even superstar Luka Doncic could not build on his previously strong performance. The Slovenian was the top scorer for the Texans with 20 points, but only had two points after the break. “We defended excellently. You have to defend in different ways against Doncic – he is too good,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

Offensively, the Warriors convinced with balance: seven players scored double digits, Warriors star Stephen Curry led his team with 21 points and twelve rebounds. For the Mavs, German international Maxi Kleber recorded three points and three rebounds.
