He was initially recruited by the Baltimore Colts in 1960, although he had signed a contract with the Cowboys before the draft. Eventually, the league allowed Perkins to play for Dallasas long as they gave the Colts a ninth-round pick in return.
The RB was part of the team from 1961 to 1968, and finished his career with 6,217 rushing yards and 42 touchdowns that earned him induction into the Ring of Honor of the Cowboys in 1976, along with his field marshal, Don Meredith. Although Perkins’ only outstanding debt was raising a Supebowl.
