Dr. Saad Makki, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Dakahlia, announced that 18,000 women have been examined since the launch of the Mother and Fetal Health Initiative, which is one of the 100 million health initiatives.

The initiative aims at early detection of one of three serious infections that are transmitted to the fetus, and cause serious symptoms, which are hepatitis B, human immunodeficiency disease, and syphilis, in addition to reducing maternal deaths resulting from these diseases.

Makki explained that the initiative includes a “clinical examination” to assess the general condition of pregnant women over 18 years of age and the condition of the fetus, and to discover risk factors that may accompany pregnancy according to the protocol applied from maternal and child care to follow-up pregnant women through a trained medical team while maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of data.

He also confirmed that the service is provided by 350 units and a family medicine center in the governorate.

He called on all pregnant women to go to the units concerned with the initiative to check on their health and protect the fetus.

He explained that in the event that the mother is diagnosed with infection, he is referred directly to the designated hospital to receive the necessary treatment protocol.
