Daisy Coleman committed suicide, in a documentary on Netflix the story of the violence suffered

Daisy Coleman committed suicide at the age of 23 after telling about the sexual violence she suffered in adolescence in a documentary available on Netflix.

The news was spread by Daisy’s mother, Melinda. The young woman had been at the center of the documentary Audrie & Daisy di Netflix. In the web-series she says she was raped at the age of fourteen. The pain of that event led her to commit suicide.

“My daughter Catherine Daisy Coleman took her life tonight”, these are the mother’s words on Facebook. Melinda Coleman she continues claiming that she can no longer live without her daughter and that she has tried to alleviate the suffering that the twenty-three year old felt after sexual violence.

Daisy’s story begins in 2012, when during a party in Missouri she was fiercely raped by a seventeen year old. Together with her, the young woman was also raped Audrie Pott, who committed suicide a few days after the events.

The documentary is directed by Bonni Cohen e Jon Shenk, husband and wife who having had teenagers were fascinated by the role of social media in teenage lives. In particular, they defined Daisy’s story as a modern one “Scarlet letter”.
