She left everything to live her dream. Céline Duquaine, a Belgian from Wavre, has been passionate about travel since childhood. While pursuing a career in finance, she decided to quit everything.

Céline had this click while she was at work. Careful, she confides in a colleague. “I don’t feel good here, I can’t find myself anymore and I feel that it’s time for me to leave”, she says.

Her place, she knows that it is in Cambodia that she will find it. The kingdom of the smile, a country with which she fell in love at 12 years old during a trip with her parents. Céline has always dreamed of opening a hotel. So she starts. Last August, she arrived in Siem Reap, departure city for the visit of the temples of Angkor, a quiet place on the edge of Tonle Sap lake and floating villages.

No regrets

On site, she made up a small team and work started. “I dreamed of it so much that finally the work went off on its own”, She says.

Céline is launching another challenge: teaching her team responsible waste management, Cambodia being a big user of plastic bags of all kinds. She teaches him responsible consumption and installs solar panels. In October, the hotel “La Villa Agati” welcomes its first customers. Today, Céline has finally found its place.

“I am happy with what I do, happy with my choice. I have no regrets, it is daily happiness”, She confesses. Next challenge for Céline: taming Khmer, the language spoken in her adopted country.
