Daily Covid Soared by 3,205 Patients, Active Cases Touched 16,000 People

Daily case covid-19 in Indonesia as of Saturday (22/1) an increase of 3,205 cases. This addition brings the total positive cases in Indonesia to 4,283,453 since the beginning pandemic.

The Covid-19 Task Force also noted that the number of recovered cases also increased by 627 patients, bringing the total recovery rate to 4,122,555 people. Meanwhile, five patients died, bringing the total number of deaths to 144,206 cases.

The number of specimens examined per day reached 281,161 units. The total active cases of Covid-19 stood at 16,692 cases, after the addition of 2,573 active cases compared to yesterday.

The spike in COVID-19 has begun to show an upward trend in recent days. The day before or on Friday (21/1), cases increased with an additional 2,604 cases. The day before, on Thursday (20/1) additional positive cases of Covid reached 2,116 people.

The surge in covid cases coincided with the addition of the Omicron variant of covid patients. The distribution of the SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.529 variant or known as the Omicron variant in Indonesia continues to grow, with the latest number reaching 1,078 cases.

Director of Prevention and Control of Directly Infectious Diseases (P2PML) of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that although the majority of cases came from PPLN, the findings of local transmission cases were also starting to increase, meaning that Omicron had spread enough in the community.

“The Omicron cases reported to date are 1,078 cases. They consist of 756 PPLN, 257 local transmissions, and 65 cases are still being investigated for epidemiology,” Nadia told CNNIndonesia.com, Friday (21/1).

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ordered the governments of DKI Jakarta, Banten and West Java to immediately accelerate the booster vaccination program.

Luhut said that Jabodetabek is currently recorded to have achieved quite high doses of vaccinations 1 and 2, but in that area there has also been a spread of cases of the Omicron variant of the corona virus.

“Today the theater of war is actually due to an increase in cases occurring in the Greater Jakarta area, for that I ask the provinces of DKI, Banten and West Java to immediately accelerate booster vaccinations.” Luhut said in an official statement quoted on Friday (21/1).
