Czechia – Sweden 27:27, Performance at the limit. However, a draw with the world runners-up is not enough for the handball players to advance

Kašpárek opened the score with his first shot in the match. However, the following minutes were very poor in terms of goals. The Czechs defended well, but they lost the chance to work out a technical error. Sweden turned the score to 3: 2 and since then it has not let the national team in the lead.

However, the national team did not let the Swedes bounce back on a significant difference, especially thanks to the active Tomáš Piroch. He only scored four goals in the first half, keeping in touch. The Czechs could take the close lead twice before the end of the half. Patzel did not hit the goal from the jump and Čípa was caught by the goalkeeper Palicka. In front of the siren, he then adjusted the score to 11:12 Claar.

In the second half, Tomáš Babák jumped on the board for the first time and held a level playing field for the Czech national team with two goals in a short sequence. However, for the first time in the match, the opponent bounced back to a difference of three goals. The Czechs then failed to defend the Swedes for a long time, and gunner Hampus Wanne played seven times in short succession. Tomáš Mrkv once managed to catch a seven-meter throw, but due to Dominika Solák’s overstepping, the attempt was repeated and this time Wanne succeeded.

However, not even a three-goal loss put the national team down. Thanks to good interventions, Babák lowered Carák and then leveled it with a predatory penetration of Patzel. The Czechs could then take the lead, but again they made cheap technical mistakes.

In the electrifying atmosphere of the Ondrej Nepely arena in Bratislava, the Czech team fought for every ball and, especially thanks to its great productivity, bothered the favorite until the last minute. According to statistics, the Swedish goalkeepers did not score a single intervention in the second half! However, the striking Swedish attack managed to cope with shots from difficult positions, and Mrkva unfortunately twice could not keep the ball in front of the goal line.

Forty seconds before the end, Babák leveled at 27:27. The Czechs needed to defend and still score. They managed the first part when Solák forced an offensive foul nine seconds before the siren, but his subsequent pass to the counterattack was not processed by the wingman Tomáš Číp.

The disappointed national team ends up at the European Championships after three great performances, when they managed to torment Spain, defeat Bosnia and draw with Sweden. The group of death became fatal to them.

Ten out of 12 advancers are known
Ten of the 12 advancing teams from the basic groups are known at the European Championships. Today, Russia, Montenegro, Croatia, France, Sweden and Norway joined Denmark, Spain, Germany and Poland, which had secured participation in the next phase. On the other hand, Slovenian semifinalists from last year’s semifinalists are eliminated.
The Slovenians led for a long time in a direct battle for promotion to one of the two quarter-final groups with Montenegro, but in the end, thanks to two interventions by the Montenegrin goalkeeper Nebojsa Šimič, they lost 32:33 at the end of the match.
The Slovaks, who were not good enough for sovereign Russians in Košice, did not go through further fights either. Olympic champions from France, Danish world champions and Spaniards also maintained a 100% balance. As expected, Norwegians and Croats also watched the process.
The remaining two promotion places will be decided on Tuesday in group B, in which all four teams still have a chance.
