Czech superdrama for Plíšková. Kvitová was eliminated in three sets after a bitter battle

Karolína Plíšková won the duel of Czech tennis stars in the first round of the clay tournament in Stuttgart. The six of them defeated Petra Kvitová after almost two and a half hours 6: 4, 4: 6, 7: 6. Another rival of the former world number one will be Russia’s Lyudmila Samsonova.

The match of the former Porsche Tennis Grand Prix winners started better Kvitová, who took the lead 3: 0. In the following course, however, she lost the serve twice and lost the introductory set.

“In the first set, we were both very nervous, there were a lot of mistakes,” Plíšková said after the match in an interview on the court.

The two-time Wimbledon winner started the second set with a lost service, but then took the serve with a clean game by Plíšková. Another break managed to Kvitová in the sixth gamma and in the subsequent long game she confirmed it, even though she faced four breakballs. Plíšková picked up the 32-year-old compatriot after the ninth gamma, but Kvitová returned it with the same coin.

In the third set, Kvitová developed a 4: 1 lead, but in the end she left defeated. In an even tie-break, Plíšková prepared an ace ball with an ace, which she changed for the first time after her opponent sent the ball behind the baseline.

In the shortened game, Kvitová was not enough for the 30-year-old native of Louny for the first time, she won the previous three tie-breaks in mutual matches. Plíšková, who missed the start of the season due to a broken arm, scored only her second victory this year. After the first mutual match after more than three years, she adjusted her balance with Kvitová to 2: 3. She beat her for the first time on clay.

“She’s a great player. She can play the winning ball from anywhere. It was a tough match. First I was down, then up again. I’m proud to have done it. I played aggressively, which decided,” said Plíšková.

The Czechs did not manage the fights with the Russians

Marie Bouzková and 16-year-old Nikola Bartůňková did not succeed in clay in Istanbul and the singles tournament will continue without Czech tennis players.

Both lost to Russian rivals. Bouzková was not enough for Varvara Gračová and for the first time in the season she dropped out in the first round. The Russian, who is also in the top ten, resisted for an hour and a half before losing 3: 6 and 5: 7. WTA Tour debutant Bartůňková lost to Anastasia Potapová 1: 6 and 4: 6.

In February, Bouzková made it to the finals of the event in Guadalajara, Mexico. A month ago in Indian Wells, she reached the 3rd round, but injured her ankle. She then finished in the second round in Miami.

This weekend in Prague, she was a member of the winning team in the Billie Jean King Cup qualification, but she did not succeed in the tournament in Turkey. She lost 0: 3 against Gračovová and did not make up for the loss of service. In the second set, the Russian opponent managed a key break at 6: 5. Bouzková then advanced at least in doubles with her Spanish teammate Sara Sorribes.

The talented Bartůňková started a wild card in Istanbul. With Potapova, she clearly lost the first set, but in the second, at 1: 5, she deflected two match points and gained three gamma in a row. However, it did not come as a surprise against the Russian qualifier.

Both matches of Czech players were supposed to be played on Tuesday, but the rain postponed them. Tereza Martincová dropped out before him.
