Czech series on cyberbullying #martyisdead wins international Emmy Award – ČT24 – Czech Television

The International Emmy Awards took place online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ceremony was performed by actor Richard Kind. The creators of the #martyisdead series watched the announcement of the awards live from the Přítomnost cinema in Prague.

#martyisdead was created in collaboration with Internet security experts. In eight twelve-minute episodes, he tells the story of a father (Jan Grundman) who sets out on his own to investigate the death of his fifteen-year-old son Martin (Jakub Nemčok). When he logs in to his Facebook, he finds out that the young man has been writing for a long time with an unknown person hidden behind the profile of a “handsome girl” who blackmailed him.

The series premiered last October, before celebrating its victory at the Serial Killer competition festival in Brno.

In the category of short series, the vertically filmed Australian Content, the second series of the Singaporean People Like Us and the Argentine One Thousand Hands for Argentina also competed for the award.

A sequel to the series, entitled #annaismissing (Anna Missing), is currently set to appear on Mall.TV’s Internet television in May 2021.

The first Emmy in her life went to two Oscar winner Glenda Jackson for the lead role in Elizabeth is Missing. She portrayed an 80-year-old woman with dementia, which reveals a mysterious murder.

Thirteen-year-old Billy Barratt performed the best male performance according to the jury in the role of a boy destined as an adult in Responsible Child. This work also became the best miniseries.

Netflix won the award for best series. Dehli Crime scored in the drama category and Nobody’s Looking among the comedies. Among the documentaries, the jury was most interested in the film For Sam (Pro Samu) about the Syrian war.

The International Emmy Award was unusual this year – an honorary award (International Emmy Founders Award). It was won by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for daily television announcements about the development of the pandemic. The jury described his “masterful use of television for informing and reassuring people.”
