Czech Republic Delivers Over 1.1 Million Rounds of ammunition to Ukraine This Year
Prague - Ukraine has received 1.1 million pieces of large-caliber ammunition this year thanks to a Czech-led initiative, Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) announced following negotiations with NATO Secretary-General mark Rutte in Prague.
The initiative facilitated the delivery of 1.5 million rounds of ammunition last year, and Fiala indicated this year’s goal is likely to be surpassed. He emphasized the initiative demonstrates the critically important role even smaller nations can play in European security.
“I am proud that the Czech Republic,at the time of the reign I lead, has changed from a black passenger to a country that is an active ally and fulfills its obligations she accepted at her accession to NATO,” Fiala stated.Fiala also highlighted plans to increase the Czech defense budget to three percent of GDP by 2030 and five percent by 2035, noting that investments in defense modernize the Czech army, strengthen the economy, and create jobs.
Rutte described the Czech Republic as a reliable NATO partner contributing to the alliance’s deterrent power, praising the strength of the Czech defense industry and discussing capacity increases. He affirmed NATO’s commitment to standing by Ukraine.
“The ammunition initiative is really a great success,” Rutte said. “The supply of ammunition according to Rutte Ukraine is very helpful. We hope it will contribute to the rate.”
Rutte also acknowledged the Czech Republic’s participation in other NATO projects, including the training of Ukrainian pilots. (CTK)
