Czech Republic. President Milosz Zeman asks the services about Russian spies. I want names

The Czech Information Security Service (BIS) dealing with counterintelligence is to “lawfully” answer the question of the Czech President Milosz Zeman regarding, inter alia, names of Russian spies, decided the parliamentary commission for the supervision of the activities of secret services.

The chairman of the commission, a member of the opposition Christian and Democratic Union – Czechoslovak People’s Party (KDU-CzSL), Pavel Bielobradek, did not want to talk about the details of the order given to BIS by Zeman, due to the secret nature of the tasks assigned to this service by the president.

However, he stressed that the order was “extremely detailed”. Bielobradek expressed his hope that BIS would respond to the president in accordance with the law and that it would satisfy the head of state. After the discussion, the commission did not find any errors or doubts related to the activities of BIS and its boss, Michał Koudelka.

On Monday, journalists from the Czech public radio announced that Koudelka had received an order from Zeman to prepare information, including the names of Russian spies operating in the Czech Republic and the Czechs cooperating with them, and the nature of the operations they conduct. Koudelka wanted to know the committee’s opinion as to whether the president had the right to receive such detailed information.

According to some media, Zeman’s actions are related to his earlier criticism of the head of BIS. The Czech president questioned the validity of the service’s warnings against the influence of Chinese and Russian spies operating in the country.
