CVVM survey: it clearly leads YES to voters, it would get twice as many votes as the ODS | Home

The YES movement is still unequivocally leading the voters, with twice as many people voting in the parliamentary elections as the other ODS. This follows from the election model of the Center for Public Opinion Research (CVVM) of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic from the turn of June and July. Compared to the previous CVVM survey from March, the support of the CSSD increased by half, thus reaching the third Pirates.

YES has maintained a large lead over other parties in CVVM’s election models since 2017, when it won the elections to the Chamber of Deputies. Compared to the previous survey, however, support for the movement fell slightly, from 33 percent in March to the current 29 percent.

On the contrary, the support of the CSSD, the government partner YES, increased significantly. In March, 8.5 percent of potential voters would vote for the Social Democrats, compared with 13 percent in June. The CSSD is thus in fourth place in the election model, just behind the Pirates with 13.5 percent of the vote and the ODS with 14 percent.

In March, the coronavirus began to spread in the Czech Republic. At the end of March, Jan Hamáček, Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the CSSD, headed the Central Crisis Staff, which dealt with the situation around the coronavirus.

Apart from YES, the ODS, the Pirates and the CSSD, only the Communists and the STAN movement would probably get into the Chamber now. In the CVVM model, the Communists have 7.5 percent support and the STAN support five percent. The People’s Party and TOP 09 remained below the 5% threshold required to enter the Chamber, both with 4.5 percent of the vote or the SPD with four percent. The tricolor would be chosen by two percent of people and the Green Party by 1.5 percent.

The survey was conducted by CVVM from June 20 to July 2. It was attended by 1013 inhabitants of the Czech Republic older than 15 years. Elections would be attended by 61 percent of those polled. The turnout would be the same as in the last parliamentary elections in October 2017. The CVVM election model also takes into account the probability of the turnout of individual respondents and the hesitation of people among several parties.
