WARTAKOTALIVE.COM, BEKASI – The Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) hopes that each local government (pemda) will also participate in supervising the distribution of imported used clothing in their respective regions.
This is because a number of imported used clothes are always smuggled in through rat routes, both sea and land routes, which are difficult for law enforcement to monitor.
“Indeed, this is Indonesia, we are an archipelago, right? Well, there are many rat roads in Sumatra, there are many in Java, there are many in Kalimantan, there is that. So, of course, what? Law enforcers are ahead, but it won’t be successful either, the sea is wide too, right?” “You have to (cooperate with) local governments, regents, governors, mayors,” said Zulhas during the extermination event at the Customs Storage (TPP) Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC), Jababeka III Industrial Estate, Tuesday (28/3/2023) ).
A total of 7,363 bales of used clothes that were secured by the Criminal Investigation Police, is evidence that there are many rat routes so that these goods can circulate in the domestic market.

“Because these rat streets are small, right. Just collected, so many are like this. The key word is cooperation. Together, of course, law enforcers are at the front, as well as customs, but local governments, the Ministry of Trade and others,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance, Askolani, said that his party had also detected a number of used clothing arriving at the port from neighboring countries.
“When asked about income, usually from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam or Thailand, that is one of the points where of course we take enforcement measures using our intelligence data,” said Askolani.

In his own mode, the importer admits that the goods contained in the container are not used clothes. Not infrequently used clothing is inserted with other imported goods.
“It is possible to enter from Batam down to Lampung including Riau to border areas and major ports, such as Tanjung Priok, that is possible,” he said.
“They entered with containers, by making manifests that are not in accordance with the provisions,” he added.
Going forward, customs is committed to not only eradicating the circulation of imported used clothing, but also used shoes which are also commonly found in the domestic market.
“Next week in Batam, we are assisted by the TNI and Polri. There are arrests, the items are used shoes,” he said.
“Later there will also be extermination there. We will divide the schedule, because we catch a lot, there were also exterminations in Riau, Belawan and other places,” added Askolani.
