Currently, it is planned to start the new school year in person / Article / LSM.lv

The new school year arrives in two weeks. At least for now, it is planned that it will start in person. But from the first day of school, September 1, educational institutions will have to ensure epidemiological safety requirements.

IN SHORT:

  • MES has 2 scenarios for starting the school year.
  • Currently, the proliferation of Covid-19 allows you to plan scenario A – to start on-site training.
  • If schools are unable to ensure a safe flow of pupils, there will be semi-distance learning.
  • Option C only provides distance learning.
  • Vocational and higher education institutions will do the same.
  • Epidemiologists: Children suffer from mild form, the greatest risk of infection is with teachers.
  • School closures and distance learning will be decided by the school management with the SPKC.

Developed by the Ministry of Education and Science three possible scenarios for the new school year.

At least for the time being, if the incidence of Covid-19 does not deteriorate rapidly, training will begin in Scenario A. It envisages – teaching takes place in person, providing schools with hygiene requirements and distance.

“Distancing in our case is a class, a group. And distancing means not to cross the flow of groups and not to crowd in common areas as much as possible. That is the condition, ”explained the Minister of Education Ilga Šuplinska (New Conservative Party).

Option B provides for semi-distance learning. This will happen if schools are unable to ensure optimal filling of common areas and coordination of student flows. Option C only provides distance learning.

Vocational and higher education institutions will work in a similar scenario.

The Ministry of Health points out that at present it is not possible to name a specific number of people who need to get sick in order to stop full-time studies.

“We hope that the situation will not deteriorate sharply in September, so we can talk about a real resumption of studies. All the more so because the World Health Organization does not emphasize that educational institutions should be its highest risk areas, ”said Ilmārs Dūrītis, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Health (“ For Development / Par! ”).

Epidemiologists explain that Covid-19 is mild in children.

In Latvia, 5% of all patients were children, and 18% of them had no symptoms.

“Teachers, who can often be elderly, are at the highest risk of infection. The risk of more infection for teachers who come into contact with each other than for infection from children, ”said Yuri Perevoshchikov, an epidemiologist at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

The decision on whether an educational institution should be closed due to illness and switched to distance learning will be made by the school management together with the municipality on the recommendations of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

CONTEXT:

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in the spring of 2020 in Latvia, schools and universities were transferred to the digital environment. An educational television was set up to provide distance learning with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science “Your class”.

Already after the end of the school year, the situation with the spread of Covid-19 in Latvia improved and a number of restrictions were in place softened.

The virus is still circulating and there is no medicine or vaccine for it. Certain restrictions still apply to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

The Ministry of Education and Science is currently preparing for face-to-face schooling in the autumn. Municipalities themselves will have to decide, in which epidemiological situation to discontinue face – to – face learning.

The Ministry has developed three scenarios school work during Covid-19.
