January has set a temperature record: It was the warmest in its 141-year measurement series worldwide, as the US weather agency NOAA announced. In Germany, according to the German Weather Service (DWD), it was the fifth warmest January since 1981. It was 3.5 degrees above the mean January value of the reference period 1981 to 2010.

“Extreme values” for mid-February

February now seems to be similarly mild: Experts expect unusually high temperatures for the coming days. Throughout Germany, temperatures above 10 degrees, in some places even up to 20 degrees in the southwest, are expected.

Normally, such high temperatures only exist in late March or early April, explains meteikologist Dominik Jung from wetter.net. For mid-February, these are really extreme values.

At the same time, however, he explains: “February has also been able to warm up in the past. A look at the archives shows that the highest value to date in February was measured in Jena: 23.1 degrees on February 26, 1900 – a long time ago before the discussion about global warming and Co. “

Parallel to the mild temperatures, however, the next uncomfortable weather situation threatens just in time for the weekend: Hurricane “Victoria” is approaching Europe – but from one severe storm situation like “Sabine” from today’s perspective cannot be said, both emphasize Young as well as the experts from Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD).

Current weather: It is stormy again

The coming weekend brings mostly changeable weather. At the Friday it is mostly very cloudy, some rain falls in places. The daily highs are 4 to 9 degrees, in the west and along the Rhine they should even be in the double-digit range.

At the Saturday the maximum temperatures should be between 8 and 14 degrees. It stays dry, in places the sun can even come out. It is longest sunny in the south. In the north, however, it becomes rather cloudy. The wind is weak to moderate, only on the North Sea there could be gusts of wind.

In the night to Sunday then dense clouds with rain from the northwest. Low also brings “Victoria” during the day, at least in the northwest half Germany stormy weather. It is very cloudy, rain falls in some areas. The wind is getting stronger, sometimes heavy gusts of wind can be expected. In the southeast half, however, it is dry and only slightly windy. Spring temperatures of almost 20 degrees are possible.

The new week usually starts relatively mild with up to 15 degrees, but very cloudy with partly heavy rain. It is especially in the north Monday still very windy, in the south, on the other hand, there is often only a weak to moderate wind.

This is how the weather will be in the coming days

  • Friday: 5 to 11 degrees, changeable, few showers
  • Saturday: 8 to 14 degrees, lots of clouds, cloudy in the northwest and some rain, otherwise dry
  • Sunday: 12 to 18 degrees, locally almost 20 degrees possible, later emerging storm, focus in the north, with occasional rain
  • Monday: 8 to 15 degrees, still stormy, especially in the north, showers again and again
