Curfew, restaurants, hairdressers and gyms. The government is ready to shut down

The contagion curve continues to rise and therefore the government wants to run for cover (in its own way). The premier Giuseppe Conte he would have liked to wait until next week – to assess the effects of the recently introduced rules – before adopting new measures, but the numbers arrived in the past few hours they increased the pressure of those who already pushed for the hard punch last Sunday. It is therefore not to be excluded that yet another Dpcm may even be delivered tomorrow, Sunday 25 October, only 7 days after the one still in force. From the executive, however, they are keen to clarify that the lockdown is not yet part of the range of hypotheses to face the second wave of the coronavirus, while the shadow of a curfew strengthened returns to scare. Several local governors have already taken this measure, which from Monday could be extended to the entire national territory.

The Prime Minister now seems convinced of the need to accelerate: in the new decree, work, school and productive activities will be protected; on the other hand, all those activities deemed “non-essential” could come to a halt and provide for further ones limitations both on means of transport and at ceremonies. The series of actions that the Giallorossi would like to implement goes in this direction. Until now, Conte had sided with the cautious wing of the government, that is, the one that would not want to tighten the rules too much so as not to further damage the economy. However, with the passing of the days, thanks to the various requests received from the ministers Franceschini and Speranza, the idea of stiffen the rules. Also because the weekly report of the Higher Institute of Health and the Ministry of Health set off the alarm bell: currently the contagion index Rt, which is calculated on symptomatic cases, is equal to 1.50 and is defined “very serious“from the scientific community.

The measures of the new Dpcm

As reported by the Corriere della Sera, today the premier could bring together the heads of delegation of the majority parties to share the new restrictions. All this after having confronted again with the Regions. But what could be the news coming? A major trigger tensions it is certainly the road to curfew: on the one hand, scientists argue that we must intervene with a stop to activities and traffic at 9 pm (or even 8 pm); on the other hand, some ministers are asking to safeguard the restaurant business and believe too much drastic the hypothesis of closing the Italians at home in the evening. The possibility of postponing the curfew to 10pm or 11pm will also be discussed.

On the weekend the lockout is almost certain shopping centers to avoid a large circulation of people indoors. Retail stores are expected to remain open, but it is possible to move towards a staggering of hours to ease public transport. In the viewfinder as well bars and restaurants, whose closing could be anticipated at 18 (as actually seems confirmed in the draft circulated in the afternoon). On the travel front, a limit could come that would involve those Regions that have a very high Rt index. It will be possible to continue jogging and physical activity, but the government seems willing to close gyms, swimming pools and sports clubs. Non-professional leagues may stop. Shops for personal services, such as beauty centers and hairdressers, should remain open providing for immediate closure to the detriment of those who do not comply with the anti-Covid protocols.
