Curfew, new protocol in schools, confinement of the elderly … the government’s new avenues against Covid-19

After Olivier Véran’s press conference on Thursday, the government spokesperson provided after-sales service this Friday morning.

Guest of the 4 Truths on France 2, Gabriel Attal returned to a little more detail on the new avenues studied by the government to try to stem the epidemic of Covid-19.

The curfew until when?

The end of the curfew is not on the agenda. “The curfew has stabilized the health situation. The situation remains fragile and it can start again at any time. At this stage, it is important that the curfew remains in place,” the government spokesperson explained.

Gabriel Attal did not mention any end date, but assures that with the progress of the vaccination, “We can hope that in the coming weeks, the next months, we can start to ease the restrictions”.

Containment of the elderly?

Government spokesman, like Olivier Véran, rejected the idea of confinement of the elderly, while members of the Scientific Council plead for measures “more specific” for vulnerable people.

“These are the people who are already the most confined. What does that mean? That we can no longer go out shopping? Receive help at home? It seems very complicated”, commented Gabriel Attal.

A new health protocol in schools

The national education health protocol will be updated “in the next few days” the government spokesman said. “The situation is explosive in schools” announced the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, on Wednesday.

This new protocol will aim to adapt to Olivier Véran’s last announcement to isolate positive people ten days rather than seven.
