Governor Andrew Cuomo proclaimed himself and infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci as actors Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino in the fight against coronavirus
Cuomo made the remarks during a press conference in which Dr Fauci participated to encourage New Yorkers to get vaccinated against the coronavirus once it is available.
DeNiro and Pacino, both actors from New York, are known for their performances in series such as The Godfather Part II and Heat.
During the press conference, Cuomo hinted that he would recruit Fauci to co-star in a television commercial about the vaccine.
“We may have an ad that tells New Yorkers that the vaccine is safe to take,” Cuomo said. “If they put us together we can be today’s De Niro and Pacino. You can choose whichever you want. You can be De Niro or Pacino. Which one do you want to be?” Cuomo asked Fauci.
“I love you both,” Fauci said. “I do not want to insult one or the other. If I say one, I hurt the feeling of the other, then either,” replied the expert.
As of December 7, New York State had reported 752,073 positive COVID-19 cases with 8,197 deaths attributable to the virus.
As of Sunday, 4,602 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized across New York. Cuomo said Monday that if the hospitalization rate does not decrease, then he would shut down domestic use. Today, restaurants can operate at 25 percent of capacity in the Big Apple.
