‘CUNY in the Heights’, studios in upper Manhattan

It is a reality in upper Manhattan! Manhattan Community College inaugurated the expansion of its Inwood branch, “CUNY in the Heights”.

With this comes more programs and races for the Inwood, Washington Heights and other nearby neighborhoods.

“We can help the students who are here, to say ‘yes we can’, they can come back, they can study, and they don’t have to go far. We are here, we can help them, we are a family, “said Ingrid Renderos, director of Borough of Manhattan Community College BMCC / CUNY in the Heights.

The Community College purchased a floor of the building located at 5030 Broadway.

This new space has six new classrooms, study area, dining room, conference room and tutorial room.

“It is another step so that young people can take refuge in the study and not take refuge in vices in ‘ganga’s and be doing something that is not due and looking for a better future for them because everything is in education”, said Ramona Crucey, resident of Inwood.

The goal is for area residents to have the option of accessing more university-level programs and careers, such as nursing, computer science, laboratory, and intensive English, among others.

Classes will be taught in person and online throughout the week.

“It’s something different, you know and I’ll have if I change my career, I love what I do because that’s what I like to do, but they don’t really pay very well, so if I can learn ‘computer’, I really imagine they will have all those things. “said a neighbor.

The public university offers financial aid and encourages residents to enroll.

“Come, talk to us, because we can help you (fill out) all the forms, know that there are scholarships, there are so many programs that are here to help you,” Renderos added.

Registrations are now open.

Classes are scheduled to start in January.
