Culture.- Pedro Almodóvar will present his short film ‘La voz humana’ at the Venice festival

MADRID, 3 (EUROPA PRESS)

The short film ‘La voz humana’, Pedro Almodóvar’s latest work, will be presented out of competition at the Venice International Film Festival, which will be held between September 2 and 12.

The latest project by the Manchego director is a 30-minute adaptation of Jean Cocteau’s original play and tells the story of a desperate woman waiting for the lover’s call who has just left her. The film is starring Tilda Swinton and is the first film shot in English by La Mancha.

“I am very excited to return to Venice in such a special year, with the COVID-19 as an involuntary guest. Everything will be different and I hope to discover it in person,” said the director, who received the Golden Lion last year. Honorary of the Mostra.

“‘La voz humana’ is a Tilda festival, an exhibition of her infinite and varied records as an actress. It has been a spectacle to direct her,” she added. Swinton will star twice, since in addition to presenting the short film, she will collect the Golden Lion for her career.

Before taking the aforementioned award in 2019, the director won the best screenplay award in 1988 for ‘Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown’, although he did not get the recognition for best film.

In addition to presenting the latest from Almodóvar, the Venice Film Festival has announced that it will also be exhibiting ‘One Night in Miami’, a film directed by Regina King and recently acquired by Amazon.

In early July, event organizers announced changes to the 2020 edition due to the coronavirus. The total number of films in the official selection has been reduced, while the competitive sections will maintain their usual procedures and formats, as will the out-of-competition sections and the Biennale College, although social distancing will prevail.
