Culture – Leisure | Help for victims: the new president has the floor

His engagement

Christian Chalon is no stranger. Elected municipal in Thionville from 1995 to 2007, candidate for mayor of Yutz in 2016, he assures that he is done with politics. But he wanted to get involved elsewhere. “I know the associative environment well,” he said. The 65-year-old Yussois obviously knew the Thionville Association for Victims of Criminal Offenses (Atav). “I was sensitive to the work done. The opportunity, the meetings, the discussions did the rest.

He joined the board this summer, replacing a resigning member. He has just been elected president at the end of an electrical general assembly.

His vision of the situation

The Atav went through a period of turbulence. The board of directors was renewed three-quarters. Nine new members, out of twelve, are joining. They are lawyer, accountant, former policeman, some elected.

President Chalon does not deny the tensions. He regrets the departure of the partner association, Athens, which was not re-elected to the board. “In my opinion, we must remove the ambiguities, Athens must be a member by right”, he assumes.

He intends to calm things down, refocus discussions on Atav missions and the work provided by the teams. He sees neither malice nor scheming in the meteoric increase of members and proxies just before the general assembly and the election of the renewed council. “If we look at the facts, nothing is contrary to the statutes of the association”, he repeats. Even if he agrees that these statutes deserve to be “groomed”.

Her goals

Beyond the context, the Atav makes a progress report. “I have no worries about the association’s activity and partnerships. The new president even considers that, from this point of view, the situation is “excellent”. He has already identified some priorities to be addressed. “Violence against women is always a scourge,” he warns. “We need to do even more. “

Christian Chalon wishes to improve the care of victims, encourages the “innovative, voluntary, pro-active approach which is the strength of Atav”. He salutes the joint work of volunteers and employees: “It’s a specificity, no question of touching this model”. It aims to develop the training of volunteers, to strengthen the salary team: “There is a lack of a lawyer and a social worker”. Increasing the presence of the psychologist is also on her list.

Finally, the President places emphasis on the Victims Assistance Office, located in the hall of the court. Here again, the mission deserves to be strengthened, according to him.

His profile

Christian Chalon announces that he will step up to the plate in order to honor his commitments. “We’re going to roll up our sleeves, meet, argue, convince. »The young retiree worked in the field of consulting, coaching, advice, crisis management. That’s good.

His tenure as president of Atav will last only one year. The challenge is real.
