Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Free State has so far spent millions in support of culture in the corona pandemic. According to the Ministry of Culture, almost twelve million euros have been approved through the programs set up for this. Half of this, with 5.6 million euros, was awarded by the Free State’s Cultural Foundation as part of the “Thinking Time” program as a grant to freelance cultural workers. These include artists, curators, writers and theater makers as well as cultural managers, music producers, artists and designers. A total of 2819 of the 2000 Euro scholarships were awarded.

A total of 1.24 million euros was released for independent music schools and providers of music lessons. These should also be supported in 2021, said a ministry spokesman. In addition, over five million euros were paid out in emergency aid for cases of hardship and the funding guidelines were extended. Due to the Ministry of Finance’s approval stop, however, no money initially flowed in 2021. “That has now been canceled, the aid is being paid out.”
