This was revealed during the courtesy visits made by the Cuban ambassador in Ottawa, Héctor Igarza, to the lieutenant governor of Ontario, Elizabeth Dowdeswell, and to the president of the Legislative Assembly of that province, Ted Arnott.
During the dialogue with Dowdeswell, both parties underlined this will, while the Cuban diplomatic representative also updated the lieutenant governor on the negative impact of the United States blockade on her country for more than six decades.
In the exchange with Arnott, Ambassador Igarza highlighted the prominent presence of women in the National Assembly of People’s Power (Parliament) and explained the election process in Cuba, and reiterated the negative impact of the unilateral siege imposed by the White House on the people of the island.
After the meeting, Igarza took a guided tour of the legislative headquarters and took part in an open session of the Parliament of Ontario.
The Cuban Consul General in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellanos, and Consul Tania Valenzuela participated in the visits.
The province of Ontario, located in the central east of Canada, borders the United States and the Great Lakes, and Ottawa, the country’s capital, is located in it.
