RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University defeated CSUN Women’s Soccer 1-0 on Sunday evening at CBU Soccer Stadium. A defensive miscue in the first half proved to be the difference as the Lancers improved to 2-2-0 on the season, while the Matadors fell to 1-2-1.
The game’s lone goal came in the 17th minute when a long ball played forced CBU’s Liebsack off her line, allowing Kaylee Hauck to break free and tap the ball into an empty net.
CSUN pressed for an equalizer throughout the remainder of the match. Paige Califf fired a shot off target from a corner kick in the first half, and teammate Canister had a shot saved by CBU goalkeeper Rebecca Winton in the 42nd minute.
After halftime, Ariana Lopez-Angel recorded CSUN’s first shot of the second period, but it sailed wide. Canister also missed from the top of the box. Lopez-Angel put another shot on frame in the 71st minute, but Winton made the save. The final 15 minutes saw offensive pushes from both sides,with Yasmin Azar shooting off target for CSUN in the 79th minute. CBU goalkeeper Liebsack made a pair of crucial saves late in the game, including a diving stop to deny a shot from katrina Marsh.
CBU controlled possession in the final minutes, capitalizing on a pair of late CSUN fouls in the Matadors’ attacking third to secure the victory.

- CBU outshot CSUN 8-5,with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- The Lancers earned four of the five corner kicks in the contest.
- A total of 25 fouls where called, with CBU receiving 13 and six yellow cards issued. CSUN players Cailey Jackson, Alex Valente, Lia Peterson, and Siena Navara were all cautioned.
- Paige Califf, Alex Valente, Siena Navara, and Sydnely Lipkin each played the full 90 minutes for CSUN.
