Cruz Azul and América would stop playing in the Azteca Stadium; where will they play? – The Sun of Mexico

It has not yet been officially communicated, however, the Azteca Stadium will undergo some renovations in order to become the World Cup venue in the 2026, which would force Cruz Azul and América, its two tenants, to move house for at least two years, but where could the two greats of Mexican soccer emigrate?

The Azteca stadium will become the first colossus in the world to host three World Cup tournaments: 1970, 1986 and the next one in 2026; in the same way, Mexico will be the only nation that can boast the same, although this time it will be a joint organization with Canada and the United States.

The Coloso will be one of the three stadiums that will have matches in our country, the BBVA in Monterrey and the Akron in Guadalajara will be the other two, although only the one located in the capital is the one that needs remodeling.

The Azteca is not only the oldest of these venues, it is also the one with the greatest capacity, as it can receive 87,523 fans, while the home of Chivas is for 50 thousand and that of the Rayados 53 thousand 500.

Where would America and Cruz Azul have to play?

The most logical thing is that both squads do not leave the capital to have their fans, so there are two options for both: The first one is the Azulgrana Stadium, home of Atlante, the second the University Olympic, where the Pumas would have to open the door to your more hated rival, the Eagles.

Otherwise, there are only three stadiums at a considerable distance from the capital so that their fans can attend: La Corregidora de los Gallos, Hidalgo de Pachuca and Cuaúhtemoc in Puebla, the first one looks the most promising, because in more Querétaro has once been the salvation for the capital’s clubs.
