Cross-country star Stina Nilsson from Sweden changes sport

Biathlon Denise Herrmann will now have a more than equal competitor on the trail in the future.

Cross-country skiing world champion and Olympic champion Stina Nilsson from Sweden is changing sports and will soon be competing in biathlon.

“I always knew that one day I would try biathlon because it just looks so much fun,” said the 26-year-old, who was last seen shooting at the Östersund biathlon stadium, in a press release .

Nilsson has been one of the best sprinters in the world in recent years and even won the Sprint World Cup in the 2018/2019 season. But even over longer distances she was often able to keep up with the best distance runners in the world.

Nilsson wins Olympic gold in a duel with Johaug

Nilsson achieved her masterpiece in the relay at the 2018 Winter Olympics when she did not let the absolute dominator of cross-country skiing, Therese Johaug, shake her off and then gave the Norwegian no chance in the sprint.

The gold medal was one of five Olympic medals that Nilsson already has. At the World Championships, she already won two gold and five silver.

Nilsson originally wanted to switch sides only after the 2022 Olympic Games – but after having to end this season prematurely after an injury, she decided not to wait any longer to switch to biathlon.
